One of your favorite bisexual music icons (how great is it that there are MULTIPLE bicons in music?!) just landed her first *solo* cover story, and it's everything we wanted it to be. Lauren Jauregui opened up to Nylon about going solo, recording her sentimental and personal new album, and her love life.
And the best part is that Jauregui is able to be so authentically herself. She's not confined by standards, or labels, or even the gender binary.
Jauregui called her art "self-explorative". She says: “I’m gonna talk about whatever it is that I’m going through, so if what I went through, I went through with a girl, you’re gonna hear about it from that perspective. If what I went through, I did with a man, you’re gonna hear it from that perspective, ‘cause I just love souls.”
Since coming out as bisexual in 2016, Jauregui says she's learned more about the gender binary and her own relation to it. "I’m sure that I could fall in love with anyone as long as their soul was genuine. That’s all that really matters to me. I don’t care about the physical,” she says.
Jauregui echoes some of what pansexual and demisexual people identify with: "At the end of the day, we’re all just humans and if we’re attracted to each other, we’re just attracted to each other. So, I just explore that fluidity all the time.”
But ultimately, Jauregui wants her fans to know that it doesn't matter what gender her songs are singing to. "Especially when it comes to love, it really doesn’t f*cking matter... We need more love in the world,” she says.
