All queers are superheroes, and now we're finally getting to serve justice on the big screen. This year, the LGBTQ community has gotten a lot more representation in the Marvel and DC Comics worlds, including our first-ever lesbian Batwoman. And The CW recently announced that the title character is none other than Ruby Rose.
Rose, who identifies as genderfluid but doesn't mind she/her pronouns, played Stella Carlin in Orange Is the New Black and promptly gained a lot of praise for being a visible queer person in the already LGBTQ-centric show. She's been greatly credited for helping add to the representation of masc-presenting women and non-binary people in Hollywood, following in the footsteps of her OITNB cast members, so it's no surprise that she was poached to play the next big lesbian role.
However, her casting has left queer Twitter with a lot of feels. Some people think that Rose should make way for other people who look like her to join the ranks of major TV shows and movie casts.
Ruby Rose is, in a lot of ways, the straight fantasy of what lesbians "should" be, so queer people called out how she kind of... isn't a lesbian icon.
Now we like to know.. Are you excited to see Ruby Rose as Batwoman?
